Sensitizing, safeguarding women rights is Govt's top priority : Nayeema Mahjoor | KNO

KATHUA, JANUARY 18 (KNO) : In continuation with its public outreach programme, the J&K State Commission for Women in association with National Commission for Women organised two day legal awareness programme for women at Government Degree College, Boys, Kathua. In her address Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women, Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor said that such programmes are aimed at spreading awareness among the participants about various laws made for safety of women. She also exhorted upon them to come forward and raise their voice against any injustice or infringement of rights they face in their homes or outside. She further stressed on organizing more and more awareness programmes in rural and far off areas to sensitize women folk about their rights. She reiterated Government’s commitment to ensure women empowerment in the State, especially in rural and far-flung areas. She emphasized the need of raising awareness among females about various legal provisions and safeguards provided to them under the constitution . During the first day of awareness programme-cum-interactive session resource persons- Nidhi Sharma, Prof. Kulwant Singh, Faisal Yaseen; Principal GDC Kathua, hundreds of students, lady police officials, ASHA and Anganwari workers participated in the programme besides officers from the administration and senior citizens were also present on the occasion. Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor stressed on the need to uphold the honour and dignity of women adding that empowerment of women should start from their homes. She said multi-pronged strategies are in place to achieve the goal of women empowerment, besides proper implementation of various schemes in this regard specially focusing the rural areas . On the occasion, various issues faced by females pertaining to social, political and economic spheres of life were discussed threadbare.(KNO)
